Medal of Honor

Though I do not intend to get Medal of Honor, the multiplayer game is simple enough to make a mini chart. No images or frills.

The numbers on the chart comes from Patch #2 with help from some of you guys.
Confirmation of the damage numbers through simple testing by those who have the game is welcomed.

Bolt Action rifles have had their power drastically reduced. Just about no more body shots.
The added recoil from the patch is minor, it is still far less of a factor in accuracy than the cone of fire in Spread.

Since the game engine is the exact same Bad Company 2 build of the Frostbite engine, I set it up similarly to the BC2 chart.
The overview of the chart columns and their meanings:

DAMAGE
Starts high. Number at the top in the left column.
Decreases over a certain distance. Two numbers in the range column.
Continues on at the lowered amount of damage. Bottom number in the left column.

Headshots are multiplied by 2.8x
Sniper Rifle headshots by 3.0x
Shots to the legs and arms are 0.8x

Open Tip Ammo adds an approximate 1.25x damage increase to weapons. One bullet less needed to kill.
Inversely, Silencers offer a quiet weapon at the cost of 0.75x damage. One bullet more needed.
Laser Sight tightens the spread of the weapons that have it by about 0.7x.
However, the Laser Sight also decreases damage on shotguns so one more pellet of buckshot is necessary.

FIRE RATE
The top item is "Rounds Per Minute".
The second is the time between shots.

RELOAD
First is the full reload Time.
Next is the "Reload Threshold" or "Add Time", the point where the ammo counter changes.
Reloading can be cancelled after this point and the weapon will still be reloaded.

Shotguns use "First" and "Next" Indicating the first shell and following shells reloaded one at a time.

HIP SPREAD
Lots of numbers now.
First is "Base" the minimum spread when standing still and aiming from the hip.
"Move" is obviously the minimium spread when walking around.

"Max" is the maximum spread, reached by firing your weapon.
If there are two numbers on Max, the first is for Base and the second is for Move.

"Shot" is the amount of Spread added with each round fired.
Spread recovers swiftly at a rate of 3.0 spread per second.

ZOOM SPREAD
The same stuff in Hip Spread applies to everything here.

Note that Shotguns have a universal spread of 3.5, regardless of posture or zoom.
Also note that you shouldn't try firing a bolt-action from the hip or while moving. That'd just be silly.

The Knife, upon pressing the melee button, takes 0.3 seconds for the attack to hit and will deliver 120 damage.

Hand Grenades have an explosive radius of 3.2 meters, of which about 2.5m is lethal.

C4 only has 0.375 the throwing speed of the hand grenade.
It also has a radius of 5.0 meters, of which 4.5 is lethal to infantry.

The Spec-Ops' rocket launchers have an explosive radius of 3.0, which about 1.0 is lethal to infantry.
They take 3.5 seconds to reload with a Reload Add Threshold of 2.275 seconds.

Tier 1 - 50 Points
Mortar Strike
UAV

Tier 2 - 100 Points
Rocket Strike
Match Ammo (1.5x Bullet Damage)

Tier 3 - 175 Points
Guided Missile
Flak Jacket (150 Max Health)

Tier 4 - 250 Points
Artillery
Armor Piercing Bullets

Tier 5 - 350 Points
A10 Strafing Run
Counter UAV

Tier 6 - 450 Points
Airstrike
Sabot Rounds (2.0x Bullet Damage)

Tier 7 - 600 Points
Cruise Missile
Kevlar Vest (200 Max Health)

Hope you'll do intel for upcoming black ops, and as complete as previous CoD games. I think mod tools will help you

I'm not to sure if I'm going to buy CoD:BO, but if I do I hope I'll be able to count on your GUIDance.

(yea, I'm in a PUN-ish mood today)

thx for the charts!
is it possile for you to explain the effects of attachments such as the "rangefinder" for snipers and "laser sights" for spec-ops?
are they going to affect (lower) the value of damage as they are replacing the "stock barrel"?
and is a soldier's default health = 100? coz a long range shot from bolt-action rifles with oen-tip ammo may not be a one-hit kill...
thx in advance!!!

@shingfd - The bolt action rifle will be a one-hit kill to the body up to about 80 meters.
The bolt action rifle with Rangefinder will be a one-hit kill to the body up to 110 meters.

The Spec-Ops' weapons have multiple effects from the Laser Sight.
First, damage is weakened, multiplied by 0.9x (dropping them down to 22.5 - 13.5) requiring one more shot to kill.
However, accuracy is improved. The cone of fire both from the hip and zoomed is tightened by 0.8x.

Soldier health is 100.

If you have time/interest could you do a crude attachment effects chart?

What are the differences between [weapon] and veteran [weapon]?

Just a quick mistake ya did. The MP7's rpm should be 0.0666, not 0.666.

Hey Dan, great Chart, as always. Do you know (or anyone else) where I can find a list of the defensive perks + their exact function?

How does Open Tip affect accuracy?

Posted 10/27/2010 5:53 AM by Wickam25 - recommend - reply

Visit DenKirson's Xanga Site!

@Wickam25 - It doesn't. Just damage.

Posted 10/27/2010 8:54 AM by DenKirson - recommend - reply

Visit Wickam25's Xanga Site!

@DenKirson - but the description says "it decreases accuracy" plus in after beta changes i've read that open tip ammo gets a +20% recoil on spec ops and +40% on rifleman

@Wickam25 - Ah yes, the recoil (not spread/accuracy) shows a small increase. However, the initial recoil is so low that the approximate 1.2x increase on the carbines and 1.1x on assault rifles with Open Tip is hardly noticeable.

With that base 1.25x increase in recoil on the rifles/carbines, the recoil increase will be more significant with a 1.4x from the new Open Tip on top of that.
But even with that increase, the random cone of fire will be a much more decisive factor in accuracy than the steady muzzle climb. Just more incentive to fire in bursts in the case of long fights.

hi denkirson! the game has just been patched recently...
is it possible for you to tell us the new tweaks?
much appreciated!!

Visit Wickam25's Xanga Site!

@shingfd - or also just HOW to check new tweaks.

They said M4, M16 and M24 have been tweaked (though I think that they have been underpowered becouse I seem to need more hits with M4 and once I didnt oneshot a guy in about 20 meters with M24 clean [standard barrel, double magazine])

Plus on the patch note they say recoil has been increased (and I can confirm this, since before only the first 10 bullets would really make recoil while now all the 30 bullets makes ur iron sight go up and also move left/right more than before)

Thanks Den, If you need files just ask me, or I can send data if you know where I can find stats, etc.

:)

@Wickam25 - Okay then.

Medal of Honor is using the same build of the Frostbite engine as Bad Company 2.
Meaning the same way of getting the data from the PC version of MOH is the same as BC2. This won't work for the 360 or PS3 versions.

Files are sealed away in .fbrb files.
To decompress those, you need QuickBMS and its "fbrb" script.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/5xhnqf

1. Extract QuickBMS and the script file somewhere.
2. Click on QuickBMS.
3. In the window, choose the FBRB script file
4. Navigate to the Medal of Honor directory. Find "package/levels/mp_common/level-00.fbrb" (220~ megs in size) and choose that.
5. You need a place to save all the files to. It should be somewhere other than the MOH game folders.
You need a lot of RAM and it will take a minute or two for everything to be extracted.

Now you've got a bunch of files and folders. Within those, navigate to "Objects/Weapons/Handheld/Python" And there will be all the weapon files... also as an initially unreadable format.
If you just send that weapons folder, using Sendspace/Megaupload/whatever, I can use that. Or you can take the next step yourself.

You'll need DBXReader to change them into readable text files. Extract them somewhere
Drag and drop each dbx file on to the dbxreader.exe to convert them into a text file.
Alternatively, paste the weapons/python folder into the dbxreader's accompanied empty "Bad Company" folder and run the exe to convert all the weapon files in there at once.

Now you have the weapon files in txt format, open for reading.

Here the megaupload link of the Python folder. Sorry, I really tried to open with DBXReader but anyway I tried it kept saying "Bad Company not found".

@Wickam25 - Nice going. Well, all of the numbers from this match up with the beta, so at least we know the Retail version is the same, including the AK47 being slower and weaker than the M16.

However it doesn't appear that any of that big patch changes were made to these files.
It's likely that they did the same thing as in Bad Company 2.
Instead of altering the mp_common file, they changed every level-00 for each multiplayer map folder in order to change the weapon stats.

my levels folder is full of "common_mp_(number)" and "mp_(number)" and "mp_(number)_(gamemode)": which level-00 should I open ?

Posted 11/3/2010 3:17 AM by Wickam25 - recommend - reply

Visit DenKirson's Xanga Site!

@Wickam25 - Any of the level-00 files that have had their "Date Modifier" changed to the time of the update. However...

You wouldn't happen to have a "/dist/patch/" folder in there?
Another guy assisted and mentioned that directory.
That may be how MoH does patches. Any files will be overridden by anything in the /patch/ folder.

If you could find in one of the updated fbrb files, "/Levels/mp_whatever/materials_win32.dbx", that'd be cool. That contains the damage multipliers.

The bolt actions still kill in one hit to the body at point blank after the patch, right?
If they don't kill in one body shot at all, these numbers would make more sense.
They apparently have a really bizarre change to the way they handle damage and the new body multipliers would be necessary.

Visit Wickam25's Xanga Site!

I tried some mp_xx in the dist/patch folder but didnt see any weapons/handheld o.o Though, in the mp_05_tdm I could find materials_win32.dbx :)

Here

Den, I could oneshot with M24 without open tip ammo and without rangefinder from accros the map, NOW, with them both mounted, I COULDNT ONESHOT AT ALL (didnt try any noscope though) Well, at least now there are really few snipers :P

edit: I checked the stats that are linked on the forums and I noticed M4 is still 25/15 but M16A4 (its called m16a2 in your chart) is 20/18 lol... I think they tried to make the M16 a more long range choiche due to low damage drop

Why some weapon files (like M4_firing_ammo2_lasersight) have 2 startdamage/enddamage? And why some others doesnt have the Recoil data? They use recoil data from another setup maybe, like the default one (m4_firing) ?

Im trying to find all differencies since the new patch

dear den, does the laser sight affect shotgun spread (for buckshot)? and do you know what the base damage and damage dropoff distances for shotgun slugs are? thanks
Posted 11/3/2010 6:30 PM by estebanavacado - recommend - reply

Visit DenKirson's Xanga Site!

@estebanavacado - Shotgun slugs will be a one hit kill to the body out to about 14 meters. 126 - 80 damage. 7 - 20 range.

The laser sight will cut off one degree of spread on the shotgun, going from 3.5 to 2.5.
However, the damage goes from "18 - 12" to "16.2 - 10.8". The tighter grouping is a very good trade-off for needing just one more pellet to hit.
